One of the greatest skills I have been taught during my coach learning and observed in people I have met who have immense impact is their ability to practice ‘Responding’ in place of ‘Reacting’.
Your reaction habits may be deeply ingrained and habitual. Read more to find out how you can respond better rather than react.
There are increasing volumes of documented evidence of the benefits of shifting your state and attitude to that of being grateful for all that you have, all that you are and all that surrounds you.In this Simple Note, I will focus on expressing gratitude in the toughest times and how your attitude will improve from regular acts and cultivation of gratitude.
I always spend significant time at the close of an event leading delegates on their commitments. Those who have attended events with me will recognise the mantra - nothing changes until something changes! In my coaching too I do what I can to encourage and support clients in forming, validating, enlivening and following through on commitments.
But commitments are curious things that are often left unresolved however, your impact, your growth, the positive change that you deeply desire is contingent on the quality of the commitments you form and successfully follow through.
For how long are you affected by an annoyance? When things don’t turn out the way you wish or expect; when others act in a way that jars or aggravates you; when your intentions meet resistance or just don’t pan out; how do you react and for how long do you hold that gritted teeth response? Read on to turn this into a new powerful you.
What are you immediately driven to think, say or do? Over time you will have become used to your way of thinking, your instinctive responses have developed. I often notice that we can exercise choice more purposefully and more often. We are either evolving or repeating. Your choice-muscle could be rejuvenated by exercise and strengthening.
Are you in a culture of compliance or is your inner rebel rising?
When you find yourself on a path of de-motivation it is likely that you have scoured your thoughts in an attempt to re-establish the point of you, your purpose. You may have rebelled or just complied.
You have a choice, there is another way.
Are you feeling bogged down? Or are things on the up? You always have a choice about how you interact with what shows up in your life and work and how you process and describe it is key…
To wear a t-shirt on a winter's day and expect to be warm is foolish. Similarly a poorly chosen attitude can limit our effectiveness in many situations.
